*New! Blackbeard the Pirate - the Scourge of the Caribbean He raided ships all over the Caribbean seas.
Edward Teach, (1680 – 22 November 1718), better known as Blackbeard, was a notorious English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of the American colonies during the early 18th century. Blackbeard raided and pillaged the Caribbean coast until 1718 when the Royal Naval finally stopped him. It was declared as a major victory in the war against all the Pirates. LIttle did Blackbeard know that several hundred years later he would be the topic of numerous movies. But then, back in the 1700's there was no such thing as a 'movie' either. The most famous Film that is or has been influenced by the Pirate Blackbeard is the latest Pirates of the Caribbean serial film, Pirates 4, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" from Disney Studios starring Johnny Depp. " On Stranger Tides" is due to open in theaters nation wide in Spring of 2011. Look for another Blockbuster in the Pirates of the Caribbean Sequels. ![]() Other Films and TV Shows inlcuded Robert Newton in Blackbeard the Pirate and the Buccaneers TV Series first airing on September 19th, 1956. ![]() Teach's flag depicted a skeleton spearing a heart, while toasting the devil. Flying such a flag was designed to intimidate one's enemies. He was reported to be aA shrewd and calculating leader that used his fearsome image instead of force to elicit the response he desired from those he robbed. But, contrary to the modern-day image of the traditional tyrannical pirate, he commanded his vessels with the permission of their crews, and there are no known accounts of his ever having harmed or murdered those he held captive. Various superstitious tales exist of Teach's ghost. Unexplainable lights at sea are often referred to as "Teach's light", and some recitals claim that the notorious pirate now roams the afterlife searching for his head.] A North Carolinian tale holds that Teach's skull was used as the basis for a silver drinking chalice; a local judge even claimed to have drunk from it one night in the 1930s. After the Royal Navy put an end to Teach - 'Blackbeard's' notorius Pirate career, his decapitated corpse was then thrown into the inlet, and his head suspended from the bowsprit of Maynard's sloop (to enable the reward to be collected).[82] *Some sources inlcude: Real PIrates from National Georgraphic, Wikipedia and others. |
